General notes on Apiary visits.
The activity described for each apiary meeting is for guidance only. Much depends on the weather and the state of the bees. Beekeepers will therefore need to be flexible and be prepared to attend at other times. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for diseases and infestations will be carried out as the season progresses. Please abide by the Apiary Rules posted up at the Apiary. Should you wish to bring a guest, please seek prior permission from either Johan Kjaer or Angela Dougall, depending on who is taking the meeting. EVERYONE ENTERS THE APIARY AT THEIR OWN RISK & NORTH LONDON BEEKEEPERS ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY IF ANYONE IS STUNG OR INJURED IN ANY WAY |

Note:- Please remember that at Apiary visits the manager for that day is in charge. He or she will be assisted by one or two of our more experienced beekeepers. Adopt-a-Hive members are encouraged to attend every visit to learn to manage a colony. Other members are welcome to attend, and help if experienced, and to generally ask beekeeping questions and learn by watching. Should they wish to bring a guest please check beforehand with the Apiary Manager who will be on duty that day to ensure it is convenient so that the apiary does not become crowded. All people enter the apiary at their own risk. Please remember the basic apiary rules:- Stand behind the hives in small groups, especially when colonies are open so the flying bees can find their way home. Only use the hive tool attached to the hive that is open. Wear clean medical or rubber gloves. No more than three hives to be opened at the same time. |
